This is one of the first songs I ever wrote. I had just left university, feeling empowered and free of the shackles of the education system. I had found my tribe of eco-activists and musicians defending the land from destruction.
This song came to me one night by the sea at Marazion, Cornwall. I was dancing on a huge rock on the beach, looking at the moonlit waves and the craggy silhouette of St. Michael's Mount. I felt buzzing and inspired, it was a magical moment when my life opened up into all possibilities.
I have sung this song hundreds of times over the years. It’s a powerful, simple call-and-response chant - people love it and get really excited when they join in singing it.
It’s primal, rhythmic and uplifting, with nothing but cello, drums and 13 women's voices. It's a timeless message about throwing off the shackles that hold us back and choosing our own path.

This song is about the elusive Green Man, the symbol of the male spirit of all nature. Written while visiting Green Man carvings and old yew trees at churches in Herefordshire.
One of my 8 Songs Of The Wheel Of The Year. Lugnasadh is the old Gaelic festival which celebrates the start of the harvest season. It's dedicated to Lugh, the Celtic God of Light.

My music started with defending the land...
What got me into writing my own music was the road protest movement.
We camped out on the land to protect it from destruction by new motorways.
We sang and played music both to entertain ourselves and to deliver our message of hope and defiance on direct actions.
This sparked my singing, songwriting and mandolin playing.
I lived the outdoor travelling life for about 8 years and then settled in a low impact community in Devon. I've written dozens of songs that tell the tales of this magical life path that inspired me so much.

The song evokes the spine-tingling energy at a full
moon gathering on Ham Hill in Somerset when the
tribes were setting off on their journey into the west...
